Coral Springs, FL
18:22 (5:55/mile)
6th place overall (out of 128)
1st in age (out of 10)
Sept 1st in south Florida. Ugh. That means the low is 78 and the high is 90 and the humidity is about 120%. Ok, maybe not that high but it was hot and humid for sure, even with a 7:30 am start. This is definately a local race, being the 3rd in a race ’series’. This was my first race in 6 weeks and I could tell. I was itching to race, getting pyshed listening to excerpts from the soundtrack to the movie 300.
The course was boring, being 3 loops around a city park, but not the worst course I have ever run. Well, maybe it was.
The start was fine, me staying with the lead pack (mostly teenagers) for the first 1.2 miles. I was feeling pretty good, but then they started to pull away. I have been fighting a chest cold recently, so I was pleasantly surprised how well I did.
My GPS watch said the course was long. It said that my 5K time was 17:48. Once again, the age awards were pretty cool, this one being a heafty medal.
