2006 Groundhog Gallop Results

February 8th, 2006

4 miles
25:37
6:24 pace
12th Place overall (out of 107)
2nd in age division (out of 5)

The weather was horrible. About 30 degrees, 10-15 MPH winds and raining fairly hard. It was just plain aweful. For a few days before my body was just dragging. That on top of a 2pm start , I am surprised I did as well as I did. The afternoon start was tough because it was hard getting food into me beforehand. How much toast? What time? That and all morning I was thinking about the race and started psyching myself out. Not my favorite race, for sure.

Calorie Burn Calculator

February 7th, 2006

I finally got myself onto a scale today after my workout ( I remembered finally) and I weighed 165 pounds wearing nothing but my birthday suit. Thats almost perfect for me. Here is a simple formula to calculate how many calories you burn per mile of running, based on your weight (from Runner’s World)

What’s the Burn? A Calorie Calculator

You can use the formulas below to determine your calorie-burn while running and walking. The “Net Calorie Burn” measures calories burned, minus basal metabolism. Scientists consider this the best way to evaluate the actual calorie-burn of any exercise. The walking formulas apply to speeds of 3 to 4 mph. At 5 mph and faster, walking burns more calories than running.
Your Total Calorie Burn/Mile
Running .75 x your weight (in lbs.)
Walking .53 x your weight
Your Net Calorie Burn/Mile
Running .63 x your weight
Walking . .30 x your weight
Adapted from “Energy Expenditure of Walking and Running,” Medicine & Science in Sport & Exercise, Cameron et al, Dec. 2004.
