Experiment 1:

Welcome Back to Chemistry Lab

Lets get the semester started off right, by thinking. It's easy, all you have to do is determine the following information, as a class.

Volume of 1 drop of water to at least 4 significant figures
Mass of 1 drop of water to at least 4 significant figures
Density of water at room temperature
Number of molecules in 1 drop of water

You will of course have to report an average and standard deviation for V and mass. Density and number of molecules come from your calculated averages of mass and V. The equipment you will be given is a pipet, small beaker and you may use a graduated cylinder, a volumetric flask or a buret, it's your choice.

You need to remember everything you know about significant figures, averages, data size, etc.

A Short Form Memo seems an appropriate tool for this lab, but you can leave out the purpose and commentary sections, since the lab is only worth 15 points.

 No Prelab Questions
