Opus 5, Ancamna
(meaning 'Water Goddess')
Constructed 1/2005 - 5/2005

It's winter, and Suijin is sort of waiting for my garage to get a little warmer before I do the next major epoxy work, so decided to start on Opus 5, since the early phases (lofting and cutting) can be done in the warmth of my house. The design is simple (and free!) and found here JEM Watercraft site

This craft is being build such that I have a boat that I can take my daughter down a river on. Right now, she can't go with me as all I have is kayaks, and she is too small to drive her own.

Salacia helping me with the lofting...

So somewhere around here I realized that this thing is bigger than I anticipated. I swear the plans said it was only 16 feet long, but it turns out it is 18' and a little more than I need. I want a canoe that I can take SJ on the water with but I do not need to be able to carry a weeks worth of gear.
End pour. That is a long boat...
Glassing only covers the bottom.
Launch Day May 22, 2005
Commentary from the first trip...
She handles very well, and tracks pretty straight. I am not sure if I will have to put skeg runners on the hull.

She is quite heavy and large and cannot safely be put on top of my car by myself. But the flip side of it is that the boat has a massive amount of carrying capacity. As you can see the first 3 feet of the boat are out of the water when I am in by myself and only the bottom most chine is in the water.

Updates as they happen...
